About Solo Paperwork

Solo Paperwork is built and maintained by Doyeon Kim. It is an independent site — not a product marketing page for an accounting company, and not a template gallery scraped from somewhere else.

I build software, and I started this because invoice templates on the web are mostly the same file with a different heading on it — and almost none of them tell you the one thing you actually needed to know, like whether to charge sales tax on labour.

Every template here is built from scratch as a real file, not exported from a design tool as a picture of a form. The Word files use proper tables so the columns do not slide when you type a long client name. The Excel file has live formulas rather than typed-in totals. The PDF is laid out for a pen, with row heights that fit handwriting.

The templates differ by trade because the paperwork genuinely differs. A contractor invoice needs labour and materials on separate lines and a place to show retainage. A commercial invoice is a customs document and needs HS codes and a signed declaration. Giving both the same form with a different title would be faster to build and less useful to you.

Anything on this site that depends on a rule — a tax treatment, a filing date, a documentary requirement — carries a link to the primary source it came from, and the date the page was last checked. Those links are almost always to the IRS or another government body rather than to another blog.

Where something varies by state or by circumstance, the page says so rather than giving you a single confident answer that happens to be wrong where you live. Where a figure is a rule of thumb, it is labelled as one.

If you find something out of date or plain wrong, please tell me. Corrections are the most useful email I can get.

The tools are free and there is no sign-up. The site is supported by advertising and by affiliate links to products I would use myself. I do not accept payment to recommend something, and no advertiser sees anything you type into a tool — nothing you enter leaves your browser.
